The town center is steeped in history and offers a charming atmosphere. Black Gate: The only remaining gate of the former town fortifications is one of Rottweil’s oldest architectural monuments. The Staufer humpback ashlars of the foundation walls, which are over 3 meters thick, clearly show how the town was originally built. Heilig-Kreuz-Münster: The impressive Heilig-Kreuz-Münster is one of the most important churches in Rottweil and an impressive example of Gothic architecture. Events: Rottweil is known for its lively cultural and event scene. Highlights include the Rottweil town festival, which attracts thousands of visitors every other year, as well as various concerts and cultural events throughout the year. High tower: The medieval guard and prison tower still offers a magnificent view over the rooftops of Rottweil. You can obtain the key to the high tower from the Tourist Information Office and the Dominican Museum. Test tower: Rottweil’s newest landmark is the test tower. A panoramic lift takes you up to the highest viewing platform in Germany in just 30 seconds. High up, a fabulous view opens up over the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb all the way to the Alps.
